After years of corporate burnout and giving everything to jobs that gave nothing back, I decided to bet on myself. The Northern Tart was born — part bakery, part fever dream — serving up bespoke cakes, brownies, cookies, and signature treats like coffin cake pops and monster-inspired sweets.
Each creation carries a nod to the darker side of pop culture — from classic slashers to modern cult icons — combining artistry with indulgence for people who like their sugar with a side of sin.
Now, you’ll find me at alternative markets and conventions across the North, serving the weird, the wonderful, and the ones who’d rather have Pennywise on their cake than pink peonies.
I grew up surrounded by horror and pop culture. My siblings lived for jump scares and monster marathons, and between their pranks and my mum’s nerves of steel, I developed an early love for the macabre. Slashers, final girls, haunted houses — those worlds shaped who I am. It was only a matter of time before they bled into my baking.
Im Natalie - The baker, decorator, and chief chaos maker.
Who we are
THE BIRTH OF THE NORTHERN TART
HOW IT STARTED
Like most good horror stories, it began in isolation. In 2020, I needed a birthday cake, couldn’t buy one, and thought, “How hard can it be?” A quick online deep dive later, I made my first ever cake — a Motörhead design with studs on the outside and a rainbow heart inside. I shared it online, and suddenly, my friends started asking if I could make theirs too.

welcome to my world
WELCOME TO MY WORLD
The Northern Tart isn’t for everyone - and that’s exactly the point. we’re a celebration of individuality, creativity, and a love for the unconventional. Whether it’s a gothic wedding cake, horror-themed cupcakes, nostalgic pop culture treats or coffin-shaped bakes that make your nan raise an eyebrow, Cakes fit for scream queens, monsters, and misfits alike. Every creation nods to the worlds that raised me — from cult horror and classic slashers to the icons of music, film, and TV that shaped pop culture’s darker side.

Once lockdown lifted, I went back to my normal job, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was meant for something more creative — something with a pulse. I wanted to make cakes and treats that reflected the things I loved: horror, metal, cult films, and that perfectly imperfect edge that most “pretty” cakes just don’t have.
